Using the Moodle “Quiz” activity you can create any type of questions; you can shuffle questions and select random questions from the Question Bank, and thus create multiple versions for your exam. Above all, you can create a secure and safe environment by defining the security settings in the exam. However, missing any setting or leaving it empty might affect its security and subject it to attempts of cheating. For example:

  • The “Require network address” setting: used to restrict attempts to a specific computer lab to avoid students sitting for the exam from anywhere. Make sure not to leave it blank and please contact Moodle Team in order to provide you with the appropriate computer IP range for the computer lab.
  • The “Require Password” setting: when you set a password to your exam, students won’t be allowed to attempt the exam unless they enter this password. Make sure not to leave it blank, you will share this password with your students before the start of the exam.

During this final exams period, and upon your request, a staff member from the Moodle team can assist you in verifying your quiz settings. To do so, please send us an email to:, or call us at ext.: 3518/3599/3586.

It’s important that you consult the Checklist/Guidelines for Moodle exams” found in this page:

Have smooth and successful final exams!
